I was sitting in the library in Amsterdam. My palms were sweaty and I remember feeling that my head was spinning.
You see, I had just decided to hold my first client event about 2 weeks prior — and as luck would have it, during a livestream workshop, I came across a mentor who could help me set it up.
Apparently, she thought my client event program was good. She asked me to connect with her on Skype to walk me through my ideas and plans.
Now you have to realize something…
I had no prior event presenting experience.
There was no ‘How To Present At An Event’ at my school. My presenting experience consisted of playing a cowboy in a school production of Bonanza in a black shirt and a red tie.
Sure I loved to present, but I was as green as you could get in the professional “speaking” world. I was operating on pure passion.
So with my decision to hold my first retreat event, the first fear that popped into my mind was, “I’m not ready yet!”
I mean, c’mon Universe.
Couldn’t this opportunity happen just a wee bit later — when I finally figured out what the heck I was doing?!
But you and I both know — with some of the BEST things in life — you can’t control the timing.
In fact, amazing opportunities often present themselves way before we think we’re ready.
When I finally stepped foot out of the library, I made another decision to hire the mentor — even though absolutely no part of me felt “ready.”
It was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I knew I’d regret it forever if I let fear hold me back from doing something I truly wanted.
I got resourceful with my time and finances, and for the next 3 months I received her mentoring. With sweaty palms and all, I wound up hosting an incredible client event in Tuscany, Italy for a group of phenomenal women from six countries.
Since then, I’ve seen that every successful person I know starts before they feel ready.
And I still use this wisdom to this day.
I’ll bet you have proof of this in your own life.
And I can promise you this…
You’ll never feel ready to make the impact you were put on this earth to make –
….and neither will our clients.
We must find the courage to rise above our fears and help our clients do the same.
The way I do this is to bring up common objections that my clients may have to investing in my business coaching, during our first contact, and handle them one by one.
For example: help them see, despite what their thoughts say, they’re ready right now, they can do this and they find the time, the money and the courage to make it happen.
As Nelson Mandela famously said — may your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.
That is my wish for you and your clients in every area of life.
